Interning with James City County Police
James City County Police Department participates in an internship program with local colleges and universities. Interns must be enrolled in a college course seeking credit for their internship. Typically, unpaid internships will be offered to students 18 years and older seeking not more than 150 hours, unless special circumstances arise. At this time, internships are not available to high school students with dual enrollment college courses.
The internship program has been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.
Interns will complete various duties and observations to include (but not limited to):
- Court proceedings
- Crime Prevention events
- Emergency Communications
- Patrol ride-alongs
- Clerical duties (such as filing, data entry, copying and shredding)
How to Apply
- To be considered eligible for a fall internship (typically August through December), applications are due May 15.
- To be considered eligible for a winter/spring internship (typically January through May), applications are due Oct. 15.
- To be considered eligible for a summer internship (typically June/July), applications are due March 15.
Note: Only 1 intern will be accepted each semester.
