A household is cost burdened if they spend more than 30% of their income on housing. A household is severely cost burdened if they spend more than 50% of their income on housing. In the bar charts below, compare cost-burdened owners and renters (top 3 bars) to all households (bottom 3 bars) to see who is most likely to be cost burdened. For example, looking at the 2 far-right bars, there are almost the same number of severely cost-burdened renters as there are severely cost-burdened owners even though there are nearly 4 times as many owners overall. This shows that there is a higher proportion of severely cost-burdened renters, so renters are more likely to be severely cost burdened than owners.
